Versions

Published versions: open, restore, save as a copy, delete old ones.

In the admin: Dashboards › a Dashboard › Settings › Versions

Versions is the dashboard's history: the draft you edit, at the top, and every version you published, newest first, each with who published it, when, and its note. The live version, the one viewers and embeds see, is the highest.

The same history opens from Versions in the editor's header.

The draft

The draft says whether it has Unpublished changes or equals the live version. With changes, Publish creates the next version. Publishing checks every widget first; see Editor › Publish.

What a version holds

A version keeps the widgets, each with its query, settings and place on the grid, the tabs and the variables' definitions. Viewers and embeds always run the live version's queries, never the draft's.

These aren't part of a version and apply as soon as you save them: the name, slug, description, icon, color and menu label, Show in the App menu, the auto-refresh, the roles and the embeds. Restoring a version doesn't change them.

What you can do with a version

Action
OpenShows the version on the canvas, read-only, its widgets running that version's queries. The banner reads Viewing v3; Back to draft returns
RestoreReplaces the draft's widgets and variables with that version's, after Restore v3?. Nothing is published: viewers keep seeing the live version until you publish, which creates a new version marked restored from v3
Save as…Creates a new, unpublished dashboard from that version, with its own name and slug. It keeps the description, icon, color and auto-refresh; its roles start empty, and it has no embeds. The original doesn't change
Delete old versions…Removes every version below the one you choose. The live version always stays. A deleted version can't be opened or restored

History only moves forward: restoring an old version and publishing it creates a new number, so the live version is always the latest.

Deleting a widget from the draft leaves it in the versions already published. It leaves the App only when you publish without it.
